Special Investigations Unit
The Stanislaus Special Investigations Unit is a multi-agency task force that was established by a federal grant in 1974. What began as a local agency task force with agents from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and the Modesto Police Department to combat narcotics trafficking has grown to include law enforcement agencies from Turlock, Ceres, Oakdale, Waterford, Newman, Hughson, Riverbank, Patterson, and the Department of Cannabis Control. Additionally, federal agents from the FBI, DEA, and HSI are also assigned to SSIU. SSIU is also a participating agency of the Central Valley California HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area).
The responsibility of the Stanislaus Special Investigations Unit is to interdict the flow of narcotics into and within Stanislaus County and investigate violent crimes, street terrorism, and human trafficking.
