SDC East was built with State Assembly Bill 900, a public safety realignment initiative, it was the first project in the state to be completed using AB 900 Phase II funds. SDCE was opened on March 17, 2017.
The opening of the Sheriff Detention Center – East implemented a new operational philosophy. This new philosophy is “Open Booking.” This booking model allows incarcerated persons to be seated in an open area as they complete the booking process.
SDCE can house up to 559 incarcerated individuals. SDCE is made up of two maximum security units, a mental/medical unit, 16 bed hospital unit, receiving area, transportation area, and medical clinic with a dentist office.
In addition, SDCE processes all the new arrests and facilities the releases for both SDC-East and SDC-West.

All visiting is scheduled electronically on a first come first serve basis.
Visitor Check-in: All visitors please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled visit.
Video visits are available 6 days a week and are 30 minutes in length. Incarcerated person will be allowed 2 video visits per week. Visits are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis, there will be NO same day visits. Reservations must be made one day in advance and can only be scheduled by visiting GTL Visitation Scheduling. A user account must be created prior to scheduling a video visit.
