The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office has the legal obligation to care for persons held in custody. At any given time, the Adult Detention Division is responsible for the care and custody of over 1,400 pre-trial, sentenced, and out-of-custody incarcerated persons. The Adult Detention Division operates a system of four detention facilities and one court holding facility.

In addition to meeting the physical needs of incarcerated persons in the facilities, there are other programs such as church services, counseling, library facilities, vocational and skills workshops, educational-and recreational programs available to the incarcerated persons. Incarcerated persons may also be eligible for the Jail Alternatives Program. This program allows incarcerated persons to serve out their sentence while still maintaining their regular employment, thereby contributing to their family’s financial needs.

Board of State & Community Corrections (BSCC) sets the standards for the operation of local detention facilities. Regular BSCC inspections are conducted to ensure compliance with those standards. Additional oversight is provided by the Sheriff's own administrative staff, Stanislaus County Grand Jury, State and local Fire Marshals, County Environmental Health, and Medical authorities.

  6. The continuity of family and community contact will be encouraged by appropriate policies governing visiting, telephone usage, volunteer involvement and mail.
  7. Staff will participate in the development and implementation of the Facility’s goals and objectives, policies, and procedures.
